Week 3

Week 3:          Date:   January 23- 29
Summation:
I started the week with Sunday at work. We weren’t supposed to be busy but ended up being really busy because it started raining. I got slammed with desserts and room service at the same time and before I knew it I was in the weeds but I got myself out and it was so empowering! This made Monday really exciting because I wanted to go to work. I remembered everything on my prep list; which felt good too. It was a slow night of only 150 so that was really good. Tuesday was exciting because that was the day I was moving! At long last, I get to move away from the crappy apartment they placed me in. I was moving to the other side of the complex and I woke up early so I could pack and move before I had to go to work. I got that done and most of my stuff unpacked and just in time to go to work. That day I worked I was going fast and it was another good day even though it was my 8th day in a row working. I got home from work and there were a bunch of Brazilians in the stairwell and they offered for me to go drinking with them. I refused them after they started playing with my hair and Katie and I played uno. Wednesday Katie, Austin, and I went to Hollywood studios. It was awesome because we spent 7 hours there and still didn’t get to do everything! We went on the tower of terror twice, the rockin roller coaster, the toy story mania, the Indiana Jones show, and the special effects tour. We ended the night with a good meal at Prime Time Diner. It was really fun because our waitress acted like our aunt. She said there are three rules: no elbows on the table, no toys at the table (phones, cameras, etc.), and place nice with others. There was a boy that didn’t eat his vegetables and had to sing “Mary had a little lamb.” Thursday was my last day off and I relaxed and slept a lot and then went to a pirate party Disney was throwing. I hung out with my new roommate Becky Lee, and then cleaned the kitchen for 4 hours with my other roommate, Elvira. Friday I went back to work and it was ok. My head chef was the closing chef and he was nit-picking my every move. We were really busy with 300 covers and it was crazy busy the whole night. Saturday was much the same because Chef Anthony was the closing chef again and was yelling at me for ridiculous reasons like forgetting to get an ice cream scoop. All the other sous chefs and cooks are really nice. So for the most part, I love the team I am with. I was really busy on Saturday with 300 covers again but this time I prepped way more and had help from the prep chef, Richard; who is really funny. All in all, a very tiring week but one that was filled with learning and fun.

Week 2

Week 2:          Date:   January 16-22
Summation:
Well Sunday and Monday I didn’t do anything really because I wasn’t going to be starting work until Tuesday but all of my friends were working so I had no one to go to the parks with. Instead I just watched tv online and clean the apartment. Tuesday was exciting because it was my first day working. I worked in the FOH and had to wear a silly costume. It was really fun and everyone was really nice. Wednesday I was super excited about being able to be in the kitchen. I was even more excited that my schedule allowed me to sleep in until 11! When I got there I chatted with one of the sous chefs, Chef Allen, and then ended up working with another sous chef, Chef Michael. I worked on pantry all night with my trainer, Alonzo from Columbia. It was pretty easy but that just because we only did 100 covers. I got to go through the hotline and try all of the food and then try all the desserts as well; it was really good food! I didn’t get back to my apartment until close to 11 pm but this was fine because I could just sleep in again on Thursday. Thursday I went into work and I had a different trainer named Kristiana. She was really cool and basically left me to do pantry as much as I could but was around if I needed help. We did 130 covers that night and I did it mostly by myself. Then on Friday I was going to be alone on the pantry station. It wasn’t so bad at first but then we got bombarded with tickets because it was raining and everyone was staying inside and eating at the Captains Grille. That night was had close to 250 covers and I was by myself most of the time because everyone else was really busy as well. At the end of the night chef Michael said, “good job Kati.” These were the best words I have ever heard! Then on Saturday, I did pantry by myself again only this time I didn’t have as many covers; there were only around 125 covers. All in all, it was a VERY informational week and it was loads of fun! I love the place I work and the crew I’m working with. Although I’m not getting as many covers as Katie and Austin are experiencing, I am learning a lot and gaining experience for when I get a job back in Indianapolis.

Week 1

Week 1:          Date:   January 9-15

Summation:
This week was my first week so nothing culinary really happened, just a bunch of training. I was so excited when Katie and I got to the Disney Welcome Center to do out paperwork. It took all day just to do a little paperwork because there were so many people coming into the college internship program. The WORST part about this day was coming into a roach infested apartment with greasy carpets, dirty furniture, and dirty bathrooms. I will confess I did not sleep much that night because I was afraid that roaches were going to crawl in my bed. The roaches aren't as bad but they are still in our kitchen. The next day was our day off but unfortunately, we didn’t have our free Disney passes yet so I got to know my roommates and hung out with Katie and Austin. On Wednesday was our traditions class where we supported the “Disney look” and learned everything you need to know about Walt Disney and his creations. This too was an all-day event with the highlight being towards the end when Mickey Mouse himself came through the door to deliver our name tags to us. I was so jealous because he hugged Alicia! Thursday was another training day but my roommate, Elvira, Katie, and I were able to go to Hollywood studios for an hour and ride the Rockin’ Rollercoaster! This is my favorite ride and it was completely worth the 45 minute wait! The next day was my day off as well as Elvira so we went to the Magic Kingdom with her friend Jacob and then Katie met up with us later. Saturday was my On Boarding training; which was just my training and tour within the Yacht and Beach club. I was really excited because I got to meet two of the sous chefs for the kitchen I work in, the Captains Grille. All in all, besides the roaches and disgusting apartment, I had a good week. The best part is probably going to the parks and the fact I have two awesome roommates; and because there are only two in this three bedroom apartment, we each get our own room.
